Each month, Christopher Violaris and Megi (EOTM committee) put the spotlight on a valued member of the EUROLINK family… and this month it is Teddy Petrova. She joined the Reception team of Buy & Sell Bulgaria in July 2006.

What is the Architect’s role for safety design?

  November 5th, 2007

According to the Wikipedia - an architect is a person who is involved in the planning, designing and oversight of a building’s construction……architects must frequently make building designs and planning decisions that affect the safety and well being of the general public……as well as occupier.

The picture above was recently posted to me from an independent agent in Varna, who was keen to arrange a viewing appointment. The photo suggests that it has a rather nice compact kitchen design for a small apartment. However I was distressed to discover a precariousness practice of placing electrical main socket outlets, just above the kitchen sink and oven area.

IZBERI ZHIVOT (Choose Life), a campaign in support of the young generation

  November 2nd, 2007

What to tell you…this was an adventure. It all started when Christopher Violaris called me into his office and assigned Stel Violaris as a Project Manager, and me, Lili, as his right hand and assistant, to organize this charitable concert, which had to launch an ongoing campaign, aiming to persuade the young generation to do good, to become someone with value and make the best out of their life. You may ask, how Christopher Violaris decided to make this gift to the teenagers, well, it is actually very simple. As he says, “You cannot expect only to receive in life, but it is good to give back also, and who is the most rightful one to give to than the young generation, our future and hope”.

The whole organisational process consisted of contacting Agents of popular Bulgarian singers, stage owners, people dealing with video screens, the Municipality, the Mayor of Varna, the Police, Security companies, interviews with the media, TV shows, getting media partners on board, finding a DJ, salsa and kick box clubs, a music quartet, a famous football star and a popular basketball team, a hip-hop ballet, making a video film with the children from “Gavrosh”, the orphanage which we decided to help first. The video was great fun, as we took some of the boys from Gavrosh for football training and some of the girls for a salsa dance lesson. The film also included a visit to the orphanage, where all the children were excited to meet us. We prepared advertising materials, such as a huge stage back drop, posters, flyers, T-shirts, an enormous cheque, donation boxes, etc. We also bought refreshments for some of the orphans to give out during the concert. The idea of using 2 large screens was to play on one of them negative images, such as drug addicts, fights, criminals, children drinking, etc. On the other screen – positive images, such as children playing football and other sports activities, playing a music instrument, studying, singing, acting, drawing, and of course our video. However, I have to mention here, that all ideas were coming from Stel! Yes, Stel, I must admit that you’re good!!!

CHOOSE LIFE initiative – a good cause

  November 1st, 2007

Oct 11th, 2007, by Sergey Stoynov, BG Reporter online news

The charity concert launched CHOOSE LIFE on the Saturday afternoon of 06.10.2007. CHOOSE LIFE is a campaign aiming to motivate the young generation to go for sports and dance activities, music, arts and education. Despite the bad weather in the sea capital Varna, more than 200 people gathered at the entrance of the popular Sea Garden, nearby the Festival and Congress Centre.

Minutes before the concert began

The most famous Bulgarian rap singer from Varna, Misho Shamara, appeared at the announced starting time of the concert. The one and only aim of the event was to give a chance to the young disadvantaged children and mainly, to collect donations for an orphanage in Varna, called GAVROSH.

Not even half an hour passed by when the spectators applauded the demonstrations of young hip-hop and rap groups, accompanied by the sound played by the famous international DJ Swed Lu. Well-known football and basketball players, as well as active citizens, part of the modern society stood out on the stage and summoned everyone to make a common cause, to give whatever we all can to the children at Gavrosh, and fill the transparent donations boxes on both sides of the platform. All the Gavroshes were wearing T-shirts, specially made by Eurolink for the campaign, and were handing out to the crowd soft drinks, snacks and T-shirts, under the ongoing sound coming from the stage.

  October 18th, 2007

Minutes before the charity concert and the launch of the initiative “Izberi Zhivot” (Choose Life), the candidate for Mayor of Varna for 3rd mandate and later on elected, Kiril Yordanov, appeared on the stage at the entrance of the Sea Garden in Varna, and announced that he will give to the children at “Gavrosh”, as a present, 10 bicycles.

“I am here to personally thank Mr. Christopher Violaris (Managing Director of Eurolink Investment Group, organizer of the event) for his constant and varied charity and to summon you young people to active sport activities”. With these words, Kiril Yordanov spoke to the numerous young spectators and added, that the sport base of Varna is available and at their disposal all year round and free of charge. “Think for your future and put your best foot forward, we are right beside you”, said Mr. Yordanov, who came on a bike.

Pressconference about Choose Life

To Alan and Margie… with love :)

  September 18th, 2007

It was in May that Alan Coleman, our Deputy Managing Director, decided he would this year take a three-months summer holiday to enjoy his countryside home and the wonderful weather. He and his wife Margie still made regular visits to the office. On these occasions he would tell us how he was getting used to no work but reading, swimming, walking and…DIY-projects that his busy working schedule didn’t allow him to do before. We also noticed his tan getting darker as the weeks passed by. Alan and Margie also had family and friends come to stay with them over the summer, making the time go by very quickly. So, it was no great surprise to us here at Buy & Sell that he has made the decision not to return to work. But we are sure he will keep popping into the office. For example, we are happy that he accepted Chris’s offer to carry out a Sales training and he is currently giving tips to the guys at the Sales team twice a week. Alan is also getting ready to start building his new home on the Old Vines next year – at the office we already see the project in progress.

Recharged

  September 16th, 2007

You can’t just relax and be on holiday forever… Here we are, back at work, with recharged batteries and ready to take the work-load, which is about to fall upon us, starting from September. We have much to do – 4 groups of UK and Cypriot investors will be arriving by the end of September and we are also organizing a charitable concert for orphans in the city of Varna. The concert will take place in the city centre, just by the Festival and Congress Hall at the Sea Garden entrance, and famous performers have accepted our invitation. We are all lined-up and ready for action.

Chris Violaris becomes the Godfather

  September 10th, 2007

By Sebastian Kinsman, Ex-partner
of Chris Violaris, MD of Buy & Sell Bulgaria

On the sultry evening of August 8, 2007, our daughter Lara Daphnie Kinsman was christened by the Bishop of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Metropolitan Kyrill, Member of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, at Varna’s Assumption Cathedral.

It was a considerable event. Friends arrived in Varna from across Bulgaria. Victoria’s mother, Valentina, and sister Anya, travelled from Kishiniev in Moldova, and my brother Ivan flew in with his family from Poland. Soderoula, Chris Violaris’s sister, had gone to great efforts to get every detail right for the elaborate ceremony. Chris Violaris also went to some expense buying the various paraphernalia at a special Orthodox Christening shop in Athens. There was a men’s choir to add to the richness of the occasion.

Anyway, Lara Daphne was eventually well and truly dunked in the giant copper bowl filled with water mixed with olive oil. She cried her eyes out, was dressed, and we moved on to the smart Horizont Restaurant for dinner. This took place on the terrace overlooking the Black Sea. This was a hell of a spread: shopska salad with rakia, lavrak, a local white-fleshed fish, accompanied by white wine produced from the grapes grown on “Marina Hills”, and dessert.

Everything had gone perfectly from the moment we rolled up at the Cathedral in Chris Violaris’s Rolls Royce Silver Phantom until the moment Alex, Lara’s half-brother, banged his head into a plate glass window at the restaurant, causing a bloody gash. And everything went perfectly again after a swift visit to the local Accident and Emergency Hospital where he was stitched up.

Lara Daphne Kinsman has quite exotic origins: English father, Moldovian mother - the beautiful Victoria, whose bright blue eyes she has inherited, Bulgarian half-brother, and now she has a Cypriot Godfather.

To Lara Daphne on her christening

  September 9th, 2007

By Chris Violaris, 03.09.2007

I HOPE IN YOU!

Can a drop of morning mist absorb the sun’s burning rays?

I thought not!

Can a single winter blossom break the bone-breaking cold?

I thought not!

Can a clatter of silver light, break the thickness of the darkness of my loneliness?

I thought not!

Can your innocent and unreserved smile, the gaze of your sky-blue eyes, break the darkness of my loneliness, break the bone-breaking cold and absorb the sun’s burning rays?

My God, Yes!

Employee of the month: Miglena Gencheva

  August 28th, 2007

Megy and the ex-employee of the month, Nevin

There are many ways we show our employees how much we value them. One is through our employee of the month program, established to recognize those employees who really excel in their jobs. And the award for August goes to…Miglena Gencheva (Office Assistant & Translator). A valued employee for 2 years, here’s what Megi’s colleagues say about her:

- Megi is hard working, making all notary deed translations, helping clients with opening their bank accounts, as well as assisting them at the Notary, once they have made a purchase from us.
- She is always pleasant and accommodating and is an all-around great colleague.
- She is the first face you see, when you come to the office, always greeting you with a smile, and the voice you hear when you phone us.
- Megi’s coffee is fantastic, make sure you try it.
- She is professional and her first and last thought each day seems to be around assisting all departments.
