The 295-meter Norwegian Jade liner called at Bulgaria’s Black Sea port Varna on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
This Panamax form-factor ship is a cruise ship of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. It is the largest passenger liner to have ever visited Varna. Built at Meyer Werft Shipyard, in Papenburg, Germany, originally as the Pride of Hawaii for the Norwegian Cruise Line’s America division on May 22, 2006, it registers at just over 93,500 gross tons.
The Norwegian Jade could not elope with the port’s landing pier because of its size and was anchored in the horseshoe-shaped bay of Varna. The passengers, who wished to visit the city, were transported by the ship’s tenders.
The five-star liner is owned by the Norwegian Cruise Line company, and sails under the flag of the Bahamas. It has 10 international restaurants, plus 10 bars and lounges so one can dine and drink where, when and with whom he chooses. Add to that the most innovative accommodations on the high seas, and there’ll be no limit to the ‘Freestyle’ choices for fun and relaxation aboard the Norwegian Jade.
Around 6 pm Wednesday night, the liner set off for the last stop on its Mediterranean and Black Sea tour - Istanbul.
