October 12th, 2007
Richard, giving Chris a present for founding the company together
Welcome to the launch of EnergyFree Technology Ltd. We are a unique company that addresses energy efficiency needs for residential homes and offices. We offer the following:
- Energy audits assessment.
- Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP)
- Air Source Heat Pump (ie wall mounted air conditioning units)
- Thermal solar panel
- Underfloor heating system
- HVAC system (air ducts with heating, cooling and air quality management)
- Swimming pool heating (using solar or GSHP)
- Architect, installation and maintenance.
The climate in Bulgaria is more extreme in winter and summer than in UK or the northern part of Europe. One of the essential criterion for a comfortable home is a combination of heating and cooling systems. These systems are designed to keep you comfortable, relaxed and get a good night sleep.
One of the issues with existing buildings in Bulgaria (or new buildings under architect design) is that it lacks important consideration on how to keep the house warm during the winter and keeping the house cool during the summer in a most energy efficient way. In many cases, they generally lack sufficient thermal insulation materials that are designed to retain the heat inside during the winter or to keep the heat outside during the summer. In addition, they lack proper climatic control systems or central heating systems.
The traditional Bulgarian building practice and standard in term of energy efficient buildings are generally outdated compared to the modern standard used in UK or many EU countries. There is no doubt that in due time this will change. However, because the electricity, gas, oils tariff that has risen to such extents, it becomes expensive to sustain comfortable living. To make the matter even worse, the energy tariff today is only roughly 50% of the EU wholesale market price.
As an example, one small building featuring energy efficient design with GSHP may consume € 50 per month in electricity bill compared to energy inefficient buildings (typical in Bulgaria) which may cost € 180 per month or more. For a larger building the saving becomes more significant.
What is Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP)?
The Ground Source Heat Pump is an important innovation that is designed to transfer heat between the earth formation and the house. It has four primary benefits:
(a) It offers both heating and cooling solutions.
(b) It offers significant reduction of electricity bill by factor of 4-5 times.
(c) It significantly reduces the greenhouse emission.
(d) It is inherently safer as there are no gas pipelines.
Note that while gas is cheaper than electricity, there is availability issues in certain areas. Besides that, gas only provides heating and not cooling.
We will address more about the GSHP in greater details in future issues, otherwise you can take a look into www.energyfreetechnology.com, which should be released by the end of this month.
